Ilarion Seniors Residence Executive Director’s 2025 Year-End Report
Dear Members, Residents, Family Members, Friends, and Supporters, I would like to wish a huge thank you to all for your continued support and contributions to Ilarion Seniors Residence. 2025 was a transformative year at Ilarion Seniors Residence. Below are key strategic and operational highlights.
Governance and Strategic PlanningIn 2025, the Board of Directors completed a new Long Range Strategic Plan for the 2026–2031 period. The Board reviewed Ilarion’s history and developed a forward-looking plan grounded in best practices for non-profit governance. The plan clearly defines the Board’s role in setting strategic direction, approving priorities, and overseeing risk and performance, while supporting the Executive Director through accountability and clear expectations.
This plan provides long-term direction for the organization, supports alignment between governance and management, and establishes measurable priorities to guide future decision-making. I extend my sincere appreciation to the Board of Directors for their thoughtful and dedicated work, which will benefit Ilarion Seniors Residence for many years to come.
A significant outcome of this planning process was the renewed commitment to our Ukrainian Orthodox roots. This initiative honours our history and strengthens our connection to the Ukrainian community.
Community and Staff To our residents, thank you for welcoming me into your vibrant and supportive community. Ilarion Seniors Residence is enriched by the diverse and engaged individuals who call it home.
I also wish to acknowledge our staff for their continued dedication and professionalism. Their commitment to resident care and their adaptability throughout organizational changes have been instrumental to our success.
Safety, Training, and Facilities Resident safety remains a top priority. In 2025, we participated in the Saskatoon Police Service’s Crime Free Multi-Unit Housing program.
Following interviews and a facility inspection, the program provided recommendations, all of which have since been implemented. We continued to invest in staff development through training in first aid, dementia care, and the use of our onsite AED.
Facility improvements also continued. Five additional suites were renovated in 2025. Of our 90 independent living suites, 84 have now been renovated within the past 12 years. The front office and lobby renovation will continue into 2026, with completion expected in August 2026.
Resident Engagement and Programming The Ilarion Experience (TIE) Department had an excellent year, focusing on fostering a spiritual community that supports the mind, body, and soul. Programming included exercise classes, arts and crafts, Bible studies, and a variety of guest entertainers and speakers. I extend sincere thanks to the residents who volunteer their time and contribute so much to community life.
Closing I plan to go back to being retired at the end of June, concluding a tenure of approximately two and a half years. As intended, my time at Ilarion Seniors Residence has been short-term, and I am grateful for the warm welcome I received from residents, staff, and the Board of Directors. It has been a privilege to serve this community.
With appreciation
T. N. (Tom) Plishka
Executive Director
