Reflection and Renewal!
Ilarion Seniors Residence Board of Directors and Management looked at our past for inspiration and then focused on the future in 2025.
Mr. Alex Chomyn, Chairman of the Board of Directors, stated the following in 1991: “It is with a strong sense of commitment to our community that our Board of Directors embarked upon the major project of building a residence for our Ukrainian pioneers; it was with this same sense of commitment that the Board translated this project into reality. Now it is with similar feelings that I, as your elected president, take a great deal of pleasure to inform our Ukrainian community of the completion of both phases of Ilarion Residence and to entrust its care and administration to the present and future generations of the residents and others in the Ukrainian Orthodox Community. I must acknowledge with sincere gratitude the tremendous cooperation and moral support of all persons who contributed in any way to the completion of this project. Thus, one of the most important dreams of our Ukrainian pioneers has been realized – we have our own residence for the retired members of our community.”
It was with the spirit of this charge that the current Board of Directors undertook Long-Range Strategic Planning in the current year. Much has changed in the last 30 years, and much has stayed the same.
Ilarion Seniors Residence has always focused on the well-being of our residents. The Board recognized that there are “new models” to help the administration of a seniors’ residence. However, when we looked at it closely, our model of applying core Orthodox Christian values was, and continues to be, the best model.
From inception, the goal was to fight loneliness, helplessness, and boredom. That focus has not changed.
We continue to strive to provide a safe, well-maintained, modern environment for our residents and staff. The early years of our residence emphasized debt retirement. That commitment has paid dividends, as we are debt-free.
Finally, the Board of Directors and Management will be (re) focusing on its interaction with and support of the Ukrainian Orthodox community. Our forefathers gave us a wonderful legacy; our job is to ensure that legacy is well cared for. We are also committed to giving back to the Ukrainian Orthodox Community with the same spirit that our forefathers had in initially establishing Ilarion Seniors Residence.
Respectfully submitted
